Are you Limiting the Lord?

“You’ve pushed Me to the limit” (Jeremiah 6:8 MSG)

Christian bubbles are bad. We can’t seem to see past them. No matter what the world throws at us we have something else, something better. It’s as if we’ve taken the wee tune “whatever you can do I can do better” to the extreme. It’s a competition that the world hasn’t a hope of coming out as top-dog in.

We think that we don’t need the world, we can live without them. But you see, they need us, they can’t live without us or they will die without Jesus. Scary stuff. That’s the last thing we want to see happen. Just think about that for a minute. If they die without Jesus because we are bubbling them out their blood is on our hands.  Their loss, our fault. Eek!

Here’s another thought; do you know that it is actually possible for us Christians to live outside the Church walls?! Being serious here! That may sound a little silly and a little obvious but it has to be said. God isn’t confined to the Church building so why do we confine ourselves? By curbing ourselves we are caging God. It’s like we have Him imprisoned, He can only go so far and that’s the height of it. It’s like we have locked Him in a cell and thrown away the key. Why do we restrict His power over our lives? Why do we limit His love? Stop pushing God to the limit and just let Him loose in your life!

Now we all know that Jesus had a thing or two to say about Church, but let’s just home in on what He whispered without words. Jesus definitely wasn’t one for cliques. If you wanted to hunt Him down when He walked this earth I doubt you would find Him in the Temple. I think he would be found sitting chilling in the marketplace, out walking the roads, or perhaps soaking up the sun on the seashore.  And because God is found just as much, if not more, in the world as in the Church we should remember that our mission field is wherever we walk.

So if you want to escape the Christian bubble follow Jesus’ lead, get to it and get out there! Mix and mingle, Christian and non-Christian alike, meet up for a quick coffee with your friends, or take time out to sit on a park bench and chat to the lonely lady. Jesus kicked back in the boat with His disciples so why don’t you have a wee get-together or take a road trip and leave it all behind?  Think about it, then act on it.

Question: who are you going to share the Message with today?  Be bold, who will it be?

Or, if none of that took your fancy you could just play it safe. But count this as your one and only warning, a “safe” lifestyle keeps a lost world lost! God saved us so that He could save the world. We are meant to be messengers of His Message. Follow Jesus out of your comfort zone and carry the Message to the lost.

“To those who are perishing, we are a dreadful smell of death and doom. But to those who are being saved, we are a life-giving perfume” (2 Corinthians 2:16 NLT). Let God loose in your life, spread a little love, spread a little Life. Turn their darkness into daylight!

Jesus, every day all around me people are dying to meet You, but I keep my mouth shut. If I don’t act quickly it could be too late for some souls. Make me move; help me to carry this Message to the those who don’t know You…
